Pop Goes the Oil Cap

The guys knew this beautiful old-school beehive oil filter was never meant to run at the pressure and capacity of the full flow oil system the engine builder installed, however they never imagined she'd blow her top. Within 10 seconds of starting the car, the flatty built up enough pressure to shear the filter pin and send the cap 20 feet into the air! The cap landed harmlessly on the shop floor. Nervous laughter ensued. The promblem was diagnosed and it turned out the shop that machined the flatty installed an early non by-pass pump which sent the oil pressure to over 125 psi. A new pump was installed and the canister was re-engineered to correct the problem.
