'69 Mach 1, Teen's Dream Comes True

This Mustang first came into the shop mid-December 2008. Rod Builders took it to the point the owner wanted and he loaded it up for his teenage son to finish at home. But after a few months they both changed their minds and brought it back to RBI. The son worked on it here. They took it home for good a couple of weeks ago. Looks good, doesn't it? Paul Bos' Roadster Pickup Debuts at Spokane Goodguys

Paul's '29 pickup is running on her own, short distances anyway. Dustin loaded it on the trailer this morning and we met Paul at the gate of Spokane Goodguys Show. The video shows it all. We were a bit disappointed, we needed more time than we had to mount the windshield. That's how it goes.

Everyone pitched in to get the car running. That's Little Z, our summer intern, in the center of the picture. That's also his Mach I in the background. Pretty cool, uh? He's doing the finish work on the '69 mustang under the tutelage of the RBI crew. Paul brought in a couple of Mexican blankets he picked up in his homestate of California. The guys draped them over foam padding to make a temporary seat for this weekend's Goodguys show.

'69 Mach 1, Almost Ready To Go Home

Greg, Dustin and Eric together have logged in another 80 hours or so on this '69 Mustang and it's almost ready for the family to take over. As you can see the guys have cleaned-up, re-assembled, re-wired, and installed all the necessary parts of the car. Today they install the carpet and headliner kit we got from Mustangs Unlimited.com.

Mach 1 Back From Paint

Harold Zeutschel's '69 Mach1 is now yellow. This color is close to the Shelby yellow from that era. Dan Rennick did a great job of soothing the rough spots a laying down some beautiful paint.
We'll be doing the bulk assembly on this car and hand it off to Harold and son Evan to do the details.

Some new tires and rims will really bring this car to life !!

Mach 1 - To Paint Before Snow Hits Again

We are suppose to have another snow storm tomorrow. They predict it will be worse than last week's (worse than last week!!!) and when it's all done we should have enough snow on the ground to break a 93-year-old record for snow fall in December. Dan Rennick thought he better pack up the Mach 1 and take it back to Post Falls, Idaho for paint while the roads are somewhat passable.
Cleaning up the parking lot before the next storm.

Santa Loves the Snow

Santa loves the snow, but us mere mortals in Spokane not so much. Yes, it's pretty and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but all of us in the Inland Empire are still weary from the over 90 inches we got last year. Meanwhile work goes on in the hot rod shop and it's looking like Santa's place out there.

It's Week 4 for the '47 dump truck.

The dump bed on this truck was a WWII surplus unit that was a monster relative to the truck. We cut 36" from the length and 12" from the width to make it better fit the proportions of the cab.
Dustin is back to work on Paul's Model A pickup. This week we made water hard lines, installed bed wood, finished column drop, finished the hood and tie down straps, installed exhaust, built seats and installed the fuel tank.
Greg is working on the Mach 1. As usual, what loked like a little rust ended up being most of the back panels of the Mustang. We were able to save the rear quarters, but that was about it. This will go to Dan Rennick on Friday to begin paint and body work.

It is definitely looking like a white Christmas at Rod Builders. Next, the slaves (elves, guys) will have to move snow so we can move cars around. We have taken away all the sharp tools because we're going to be on suicide watch pretty soon with all this snow. HELP US!

The '69 Mach I Mustang

New to the shop is this 1969 Mach 1. The owner just wants a modest "freshening." OK.
Eric hollowed it out and loaded it on the trailer for the ride to our sand blaster Gary Fultz at Diversified Welding in Rathdrum, ID. New left and right trunk floor panels and a tail light panel are on order. We'll keep you posted.
