How RBI Does A Stainless Steel Flare

At Rod Builders, we use stainless steel tubing exclusively for all brake, fuel, A/C and tranny cooler hard lines. We use a heavy wall tubing that is capable of many times the pressure it will ever be used for. Heavy wall tubing uses a single flare instead of the double flare that traditional lines use.It is important to deburr the tube end before you start, inside and out, and don't forget to slide the nut over the tube before you begin the flare! It takes a high quality flare tool to move the heavier tube wall and the tubing should project above the tool by two wall thicknesses.

A good flare is small enough to fit into a fitting, but large enough to cover the entire interface cone on the fitting. If welded tubing is used instead of seamless, it is important to kiss the flare with the appropriate countersink tool to clean up any defects in the flare.

There is little that is more beautiful than a car plumbed with stainless steel tubing. If the flares are done correctly, you will have a long lasting and leak proof plumbing that adds a bit of sophistication to your project. Bob
