Ford MOD Motor In A '63 Comet

Pat McChesney bought a really nice '63 S22 Comet as a project car many years ago. As life would have it, he just didn't get the opportunity to take the 216 straight six out and put something interesting under the hood. We scrounged around and found a '98 Crown Vic in excellent condition and proceeded to mercilessly gut it for what it could lend to Pat's car.
What we ended up with is a 4.6 2V Ford Interceptor motor with a EAOD Electronic overdrive transmission and the 8.8" Ford rear end shortened 12" to fit under the Comet uni-body. We kept all the fuel injection and electronics and dumped the crap we don't need (EGR, tank purge, etc).

We hung the shortened rear axle form a Heidts 4-bar coil over kit and welded a Heidts Mustang II conversion kit under the front. Now Pat has rack & pinion, 4 wheel disks, and adjustable ride all around. There wasn't a lot of extra room for the notoriously wide Ford Mod motor, but some clever engineering has it nestled in like its always been there.
Repeat after me, "sleeper!". This is one of several rigs that we've transplanted these Ford Mod motors into, and it never fails to amaze me how well mannered and drivable they are. On the other hand, for being relatively small displacement engines, they go like a bat out of hell. Economy, driveability and power.................the trifecta. Bob Spokane Car Builder
