Pancaking A Hood

Pancaking the hood on these 53-56 Ford trucks can be challenging, but we have a way of doing it that reduces weld up time as well as eliminates fit up problems. We never like to see more than a skim of mud when we're done, so we tig and hammer all joints. Taking these down 1.5 inches is pretty easy and makes a huge difference in appearance. Going over that is much more work.

More Mods For '53 Ford Pickup

Can you spot all the mods Rod Builders made to this '53 Ford pickup?
Last week Eric rounded the doors and finished the tricked out console with jockey box and modern cup holder

Now they are out in the shop pancaking the hood! More on that later.

'53 Ford Pickup - Sculptured Beauty

Larry Schierman brought us his '53 Ford pickup a couple years ago to have us chop the top a couple and get the project to a stage where he could take over. Since then, Larry had a few more ideas so he brought it back to have us customize the bed, put a console in and work some details out on the front end. On another occasion, we widened the rear fenders and moved the wheel opening in the front fenders 3" to remove the famous ford "snoz".
Larry wanted different, we wanted cool. So we deleted the stake pockets, widened the rear fenders, installed a custom rear pan, rounded all the corners and sculpted in the tail lights.

Larry had us come up with a console that had many requirements; hidden switches, arm rest, storage, cup holders and last but not least, keep it clean!

I think we can all agree, Larry is going to have a beautiful rig when he's done!! Bob
