Spokane V-8 Club Swap Meet This Weekend

The Inland Empire Early Ford V-8 Club's BIG Swap Meet is this weekend, July 9 - 11th, 2010. They also host a Show & Shine. The event is held at the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center on Havana & Broadway. As usual, hot weather hits the Inland Empire on the weekend of the V-8 club's swap meet. Out-of-towners, be prepared, the heat coming off the concrete at the fair grounds is intense. Call (509) 994-4924 if you need information. (The skirt can't seem to bring up their web site. Can you?) See ya there!

MF's Cluster (AKA '26-'27 T Car)

Cory (MF) Gilbert brought in his project car a few months back to have Rod Builders complete some tricky metal fabrication for him.

This is an entirely custom car, so the door frames had to be built from scratch. Turned out great, don't you think? Like everything we do, we try and make it look like it came from the factory that way. Pretty cool, uh?

MF plans on using this later model heavy-duty flathead in the car. Yesterday, he asked us to fire it up for him. Runs great! The skirt loves the sound of the flathead doing its thing, so she made a video.

Oh It's On, Alright!

We just got word at Antique Auto about the Flathead Eastside Vs Westside Reliability Run. The side that gets the most flathead powered vehicles (no overhead converts) to Vantage, WA by noon wins. The Skirt knows it's a year away, but she's excited! Chuck figures if we leave by 8:00 AM we should get the '41 the 150 miles to Vantage, no problem. Follow the H.A.M.B. for rules and updates.
Eastside group starts here, at the Antique Auto Ranch.

Dump Truck Debuts At Hometown Festival

Sunday we drove the '47 Ford dump truck 75 miles south of Spokane to Ritzville, WA in time to make the Ritzville Classics at the Park Car Show. Local farmers remembered seeing the old truck parked next to the courthouse and were amazed at the transformation. The day had everything going for it. The truck ran great, the weather was nicer than anyone remembers it ever being on a Memorial Day weekend, the people were friendly and the Ritzville gun club served a big plate BBQ lunch. So, we ate in the shade of a grand, old walnut tree, and answered questions about the restoration. It was a good day.

Dump Truck back home. For a complete pictorial of the restoration click here and scroll down.

Re-firing the ABA Flathead - Day 73 On '47 Dump Truck

Larry, the previous owner of this beautiful '47 Ford 2 Ton dumper stopped by with the current owner to see how the restoration is progressing. They got to see the re-firing of the ABA flathead motor.

The Ford flathead is one of the most produced engines in history and is very distinctive sounding when they're fired up without exhaust. Check out this video

Soon, this beautiful old workhorse will be resting in a nice warm shop waiting to be taken out every spring an summer for garbage runs and parades.

Paul's '29 Model A Pickup

Paul is a member of the gang of original So. Cal. hot rodders and speed racers. He and his wife live in Idaho now. Because he's old and stiff (his words, not ours) he asked Rod Builders to help him through some tricky stuff on his build of a '28 Model A hot rod pickup. The guys have been loving it. Pictures below. Here's a story on Paul from blog A.D.D. Garage. We want Paul to write his own life story some day. What do you think, Paul?

More to come next week!

Flathead Love

The Inland Empire Early Ford V-8 Club picked Chuck McVey's '41 Super Deluxe Business Coupe as one of the four "Best Flatheads" at their Show & Shine this past weekend. What an honor, Chuck 'cause these guys know their stuff!
