Just A Fool For Small Town Parades

To indulge The skirt's fondness for small town parades, we scheduled a pick up of the '47 Ford dump truck from its home in Ritzville on the day of the Ritzville Community Parade, which was part of the Wheat Land Communities Fair. It was just our kind of small town event. The wheat truck was actually part of the parade and won a first place ribbon in its category. We were as proud as a country cock. Rod Builders did an excellent job restoring that truck. Click here for how it all started and click on the label for the full story. Here are a few things that caught my eye: Bob, and our dog Trevor, visiting with folks before they line up for the parade. Bob, looking over this fabulous horseless carriage, and 1950 split window International pickup. The skirt liked the rotating pink spangled pigs and Molly, Ritzville's oldest resident. Here RBI customer, Martin Deeg, shares his beautiful '55 Merc with the crowd. Click here to read the story on this car.Everyone, including the dogs, had mixed feelings about the musket fire from the civil war reenactors.
It's voting season. God bless America!

Oh It's On, Alright!

We just got word at Antique Auto about the Flathead Eastside Vs Westside Reliability Run. The side that gets the most flathead powered vehicles (no overhead converts) to Vantage, WA by noon wins. The Skirt knows it's a year away, but she's excited! Chuck figures if we leave by 8:00 AM we should get the '41 the 150 miles to Vantage, no problem. Follow the H.A.M.B. for rules and updates.
Eastside group starts here, at the Antique Auto Ranch.

Small Town Parade

Chuck McVey and The Skirt took his '41 Ford to Slippery Gulch Days in Tekoa, WA. on June 20th. Here's an abbreviated version of the parade starting with the kids. Watch closely, at the beginning of the video a little "baker" eludes being tripped up by her group's wagon. Chuck's '41 shows up near the end of the video.

Gotta love a small town parade!

We had lots of time to explore town.
Went to the big breakfast at the high school,
had the grilled brots for lunch, snooped around Doresy Chevrolet. Townsfolk told us several years ago a car enthusiast from Seattle bought the building and land.
He collects and restores cars there, I guess. Scrapbooks in the museum showed Slippery Gulch parades
going back nearly 100 years. Here's Slippery Gulch Days 1948.

2009 car show.

What do you think? Good time in small town America.

Driving the '41 to Slippery Gulch Parade

On June 20th The Skirt road along with Chuck McVey in his '41 Ford to Slippery Gulch Days parade and car show in Tekoa, (Tee-co) Wa. Here's a snippet of the scenic 39 mile drive along Washington State Hwy 27.The two lane highway rolls through a variety of topography in a very short distance. Notice the pea fields. Riding in the '41 was a treat. The car performed beautifully. Chuck even passed a gal in her Camery. He had to be going around 65-70 m.p.h. I was gripping the side of the car seat, so there's no video.

Lined up for the parade.

I'll post video of the parade later this week.

Road Trip - The Return of Dr. Rogers' '34-'33

I flew to Wichita, KS earlier this week to meet Dr. Rogers half way from Florida and help him drive his '33 sedan back to Idaho. We put a 6.0L 2008 Chevy LS engine in the car last fall. He now has 7500 miles on the new installation. Aside from some frustrating programming issues, the car works great and made for a wonderful road trip.

Windshield "snot" is what you get this time of year when you're going through Kansas and Nebraska. Species identification was difficult at 80 mph. All we can say is that the last thing to go through their minds was thier buttholes.

Dateline: May 19, North Platte Nebraska, 5:00 AM; I finally got to have breakfast in a real diner! We had bacon and eggs and hit the road for a 13 hour shift through Wyoming and Montana. The car ran like a champ although mileage suffered considerably pushing a barn door down the road at 80 mph with a 40 mph headwind.

America is a great place to explore by car. The countryside was gorgeous and green. This is one of the many Oregon Trail landmark rocks somewhere in Wyoming. Bob.

Old Skool and Kustom Show

Spokanites love cars, all kinds of cars. You get some nice weather like what we had Saturday and folks want to go for a drive. We took our '62 Mercury station wagon to the Country Place Tavern to met up with friends and have a beer.
Here's a little video of some of the stuff we saw.
