Just A Fool For Small Town Parades

To indulge The skirt's fondness for small town parades, we scheduled a pick up of the '47 Ford dump truck from its home in Ritzville on the day of the Ritzville Community Parade, which was part of the Wheat Land Communities Fair. It was just our kind of small town event. The wheat truck was actually part of the parade and won a first place ribbon in its category. We were as proud as a country cock. Rod Builders did an excellent job restoring that truck. Click here for how it all started and click on the label for the full story. Here are a few things that caught my eye: Bob, and our dog Trevor, visiting with folks before they line up for the parade. Bob, looking over this fabulous horseless carriage, and 1950 split window International pickup. The skirt liked the rotating pink spangled pigs and Molly, Ritzville's oldest resident. Here RBI customer, Martin Deeg, shares his beautiful '55 Merc with the crowd. Click here to read the story on this car.Everyone, including the dogs, had mixed feelings about the musket fire from the civil war reenactors.
It's voting season. God bless America!

Cool Cars and Cool Babes @ Rod Builders

Just for the fun of it, last Friday night, we grabbed our cameras and the Merc, (which was back for a broken window this time) for an impromptu photo shoot, with Kayla (Eric's fiance) modeling the new Rod Builders' tank top. Each of us probably took 50 shots. Now we need to decide what to do with them. They turned out pretty cool. Thanks Kayla. Does anyone want to buy a Rod Builders ladies tank top?

Friday Night Rumble at RBI

Last Friday night, while other local car buffs were headed to Car d'Alene, crew and guests were still at the shop. The owner of the Bel Air, and his son, wanted to take their car out for a test drive. We accommodated, but Bob decided to follow them just in case. Bob drove the '55 Merc, which happened to be in the shop that day for new Wheel Vintiques Smoothies. Hey, you have to try out the new wheels too, right? Drivers took their cars for a little spin around the "idle" housing development below the property here. (Makes a great test track) We watched the cars from our parking lot, unfortunately it's too far away to show well on a video camera. Thunder and lighting added to the excitement. The wind was kicking up too. You can hear it on the audio. See the storm clouds? We got everything tuck away before it started to rain.

'55 Merc On Dyno At Shelley Performance

This '55 Mercury Monte Claire was completed last year at our shop. The owner wanted to know just what he got for the addition of a supercharger. Stock, these 2 valve 4.6L ford put out about 190 to the rear tires. The Merc made 276 at the rear with 5 pounds of boost. The cool thing was how it sounded when it was running its guts out. We want to thank Brian at Shelly's Performance for a great afternoon of car stuff.

Spokane Auto Boat Speed Show 2008

Pictured above are the RBI built cars which premiered at the 2008 Spokane Auto Boat Speed Show this past weekend: Chuck McVey's '41 Super Deluxe Business Coupe, Dennis Kelly's Factory Five '64 Cobra Daytona Coupe, and Martin Deeg's '55 Mercury Montclair. At RBI, we know full well the commitment of time and money it takes to build or restore a collector car. We want to thank these three men for choosing Rod Builders Inc to do the tricky stuff. It was gratifying to see each completed car at the show and know the public and show judges appreciated the craftmenship that went into each project. Chuck and his '41 are now mapping out a show schedule, Dennis and his Cobra are off to the racetrack, and the Deeg's are headed out May 1st with their Merc on a cross-country road trip. All three promise to stay in touch and send pictures. We'll pass them along. Scroll down this blog for an inside look on each build. For more on the Cobra kit car click here and read addgarage.blog.

The '55 Merc Montclair is nearing completion. The addition of Saturn Moon Discs really finishes off the look.

Thats Saddle and Forest Green interior with the stock chrome strips. We're now doing custom upholstery.

Looking in on the 1955 Mercury Montclair

Being around these cars as the RBI crew transform them into works of art has taught me the meaning of process and patience. It is a good lesson to apply to all areas of your life. The deadline for this build is mid-March in time to enter Don Wilbur's Spokane Speed Show.

By the way, here is a picture of the Montclair March 2007.
